Put SQL Server to work for you and your company and be confident you have the information and knowledge you need.

The Real-World Information You Need – In Tucson, AZ, SQL Server MVP Stephen Wynkoop will spend 3 days in our classroom with you showing, demonstrating, and talking about the skills and information you need in the real-world for working with SQL Server.

Here are a couple of comments from students in our first course:

"The best money my employer ever spent on my behalf!"

"Excellent presenters, excellent pace, location hotel and office...You'll be hearing from me!"

"I liked the openness of the class. ...[they] allowed us to take the class in the direction that was most important to us."

The complete 3 day class is only $999.00. Materials include all slide decks and sample scripts, the course certificate, a practical application workbook and checklists, and a one-year membership in SSWUG.ORG.

We'll be starting at 9:00a each day and ending at 4:30p. This course includes heavy discussion and interaction segments to get answers to your questions and provide as much information as possible for your particular environment. Each topic area includes a discussion and practical application segment to make sure you know how to go back and apply items from the class - from optimization to tools and techniques, our focus is on real-world, usable help. Many segments will also provide the opportunity to work with SQL Server on your system to apply what we've covered in the class - with specific lab objectives.

We also include a 2-week follow-up online meeting with the class to review what you've found when you return to the office. We'll answer questions then about applying techniques from the class and reviewing key items that you may have additional questions about in your own installations.

This class is the perfect place to start whether you're an accidental/new DBA or a seasoned professional.

The class will be centered around real-world experiences, how-to information and specific demonstrations and labs that will let you use and explore the topics covered. Here's a high- level look at the major course segments, each about 1/2 day:

  • Performance - we'll focus on management, tuning and optimization for your servers. Learn about counters to monitor, common pitfalls and native tools you can use to manage and monitor your performance and see what's happening on your server.

  • Management - Ongoing management of your systems, what to be monitoring, what types of things you can do to troubleshoot and best practices for your systems.

  • Best Practices - What are your native options for monitoring and auditing your SQL Server? What options best fit in your own implementations? What is the impact or overhead of the various approaches? What things can you put in place for procedures and policies to assure your systems are maintainable? What types of things do you need to be thinking about as you begin the work of satisfying compliance or best-practice requirements?

  • Security - Planning and implementing an access control model, understanding the threats to your system, what you can do about them, how they work, tips for managing your footprint and installation vulnerabilities.

  • Disaster Recovery - What are the key fundamental planning points for building a disaster recovery plan? How does disaster recovery work, what options do you have, how do backups, restores work, what options

  • Working with Information - Learn about import/export how-to information and work through several import challenges. Find out about the tools you have available to you for protecting your data and how to scrub data with an introductory walk through an SSIS where you'll work through building an import routine that filters information and changes the format along the way.
