Planning & Design for the IP & File Based Facility & Eco-System

About Broadcast Engineering Specialized Training Videos

IP and file based production has had a substantial impact on the requirements and specifications for both the physical and technology infrastructure. The entire Eco system of handling and managing media and the way business groups interface is very different. This series of modules explores these new requirements, the physical and technology architecture; and production workflows of the entire lifecycle and value chain of media in the IP and file-based architecture. The intent is to provide a deeper understanding about what's involved in the design of an IP facility and eco-system.

Overview: an overview covering the different areas that the other modules will go into greater depth.

Ingest/Acquisition/Capture: Removable media, remote production, studio production- all have changed in the IP and file based eco systems. How does media enter the IP eco system? What are the new tools and workflows to enable production? Where is the transition from SDI to IP?

Workflows & Business Process: There are new tighter integrations between business and production operations, the workflows and processes.

Media Management & Metadata: In the IP and file based Eco System Media Management is the core of how technology, operations, workflow and business processes interact and function.

Engineering & Business Integration: The role and responsibilities of the broadcast engineer has changed. What are the demands on the engineer to monitor and manage an IP architecture?

Delivery and Distribution: There are a number of different paths for distribution in the IP and file based eco system. In order to deliver to all platforms, media is formatted differently for each platform.

Facility Design: Whether it’s a new facility or the updating of an existing one, the changes in design for an IP facility in bricks and mortar and core technology infrastructure is substantial.
