SQL Azure is Microsoft's solution for hosting basic SQL Server relational databases in the cloud. For smaller databases that don't require features such as Reporting Services, Analysis Services, or Full Text Search, it can be an easily to use technology that can save lots of money in license and maintenance costs.

This session shows you how to configure, connect to, and manage a SQL Azure database, both from SQL Server Management Studio and from a .NET application, and it gives best practices and tips on how to get the most utility from SQL Azure.

Business Intelligence and Cloud technologies are both hot topics in today’s technological world.

In this session, Rob will investigate the features that are available in SQL Azure to enable organizations to get reporting up and running with SQL Azure. He will look at what is available in SQL Azure Reporting, as well as what it takes to use an on-premise Reporting Services instance with a SQL Azure data source. Finally, Rob will look at how to use SSIS to create a robust reporting environment by moving data between SQL Azure and a local instance of SQL Server to create a cloud based business intelligence solution.

Lynn will demostrate tools and techniques around migration from various sources into the SQL Azure environment. She will include use of SQL Azure Migration Wizard, SQL Server Management Studio generating scripting, BCP, SSIS, specialized migration tools, such as the MySQL to SQL Azure Migration Wizard. Lynn will also cover DACPACs as they relate to migration and, finally, her session will include new product releases.

Watch a shootout on Amazon RDS versus SQL Azure!

Ike will look at the differences in pricing, disaster recovery, features, and performance. He will have lots of demos on both products. This is an advanced course for those who are already familiar with RDBMS's and the cloud. He will also discuss the publicly available portions of both of their roadmaps.
