Data Policies |
Not every data rule can, or should , be implemented using constraints. For my vertical app, I’ve implemented a Data Policies feature that checks for questionable data, alerts the user, and monitors when the data is fixed. For example, if an order has not order details rows, or a customer hasn’t placed an order in 6 months, or a customer crossed a threshold and became a major customer. In this session I’ll show you how to build your own data policy feature for your database. |

Get ready for Microsoft Project Gemini |
Project Gemini is a entirely new generation of analytic technology - an Excel add-in of unprecedented analytic power. Business users can work with 100s of millions of rows of data in the Excel environment: and they can share their analyses on Sharepoint with refreshable data sources, and a thin client experience for others. So, given this remarkably new product, how do you prepare your infrastructure, your data and your users (always the most difficult) for the world of Gemini? This session will describe the Gemini infrastructure and the tools which Microsoft delivers for the IT professional working with Gemini. We also explore the impact of Gemini on business users, with a view to helping you prepare your data governance processes for the various ways in which Gemini users can source, integrate and share data and analyses. Its an essential session as you prepare for SQL Server 2008 R2. |

Data mining for DBAs |
In the past data mining has been seen as a topic for the highly specialized and qualified analyst. Microsoft has done some important work in broadening the user base of our data mining technololgy, with APIs for developers and Excel Add-ins for power users. However, someone has to support these users, and that task often falls to the DBA. In this session well explain the underpinnings of the data mining platform and the tools and techniques available to help you better support your analysts. But hey ... its not all about supporting others. Well also show you some powerful ways in which data mining can help the DBA directly - by finding patterns and relationships in server performance and management data that can assist you to make more effective operational decisions. |

SQL Statement Tuning with Showplan |
The SQL Server query optimizer is the single most important technology within the query processing engine. It decides exactly how any given SQL statement is executed. One of the most useful tuning steps you can take when assessing the performance of a query is to examine its query plan. However, the query plan is full of jargon and obscurely defined operations. This session will take you through the basics of reading and understanding query plans, as well as covering the steps which indicate good performance and poor performance. When you’re done with this session, you will have a working knowledge of tuning SQL queries using the SET SHOWPLAN command and using the Graphic Showplan utility within SQL Server. |

Introduction to Entity Framework |
Integrating the Database development and schema information into your front end development has always been a challenge. There has been a disconnect between 2, whenever objects on database side changes at schema level the process of informing the application development team has been manual and causes many problem. The entity framework was designed with the idea of bridging that gap, where the Solution Architect, DBAs and the application designers can all talk using same interface and your editor is aware of the database schema at design it. In this session we will take a high level overview of what entity framework has to offer for application developers. |
