Let us introduce you to some of the professionals we have lined up for October's conference:


 

Rachel Appel
Rachel Appel - Rachel has been working as a mentor, instructor, software developer, architect and DBA for nearly 20 years. During her career, Rachel has worked with a variety of languages, technologies and systems and has contributed to projects of all sizes including large scale enterprise applications at some of the world's leading companies. Rachel is the Vice President of the .Net Valley user group, as well as a leader and regular speaker in the Philly.NET and Central Penn.NET user groups of Pennsylvania. She can also be found speaking at code camps, user groups, community events and conferences. Rachel's expertise lies within developing solutions that align business and technology using the Microsoft .NET family of products, particularly ASP.NET & SQL Server. She is also an ASP.NET MVP, ASPInsider and holds the Microsoft Certified Trainer, MCAD & MCSD certifications. She is also a member of the INETA speakers bureau.

 

Marc Beacom
Marc Beacom - Marc Beacom got started with SQL Server developing ETL solutions with DTS on SQL Server 2000. The last several years, he has been focusing on building data warehouse and business intelligence solutions in the retail and education sectors on SQL Server 2005 and 2008. Marc has gained extensive experience in the Microsoft BI Tool Stack, including Integration Services, Analysis Services, Reporting Services, SharePoint (WSS and MOSS) and ProClarity. Marc is an active member of the community and is currently President of the Denver SQL Server User Group and VP - Membership of the Colorado Springs SQL Server User Group. Marc is also a member and volunteer for PASS.

 

TJ Belt
TJ Belt - Tjay Belt is an outdoorsman who enjoys riding dirtbikes, waterskiing/boating, playing racquetball and spending time with his family. When he can't be out playing, Tjay loves to tinker with databases. Tjay has been an IT professional for over a decade. Currently serving as a Senior Database Engineer with Cybersource in the Infrastructure Engineering group, TJay has progressed through several roles in his database career including developer, data guy, database developer, database analystand DBA. Prior to Cybersource, he worked at several software companies, working at internal customer sites in the United States and abroad. He has always gravitated to the database side of each job and excelled. TJay studied Computer Science at Brigham Young University and is a member and active volunteer of PASS.

 

Brendon Birdoes
Brendon Birdoes - Brendon is a Microsoft Certified Professional with over nine years experience delivering web, smart client and service oriented applications. With a range of experience in the Microsoft technology stack, Brendon focuses on integration and service oriented technologies such as Microsoft BizTalk Server, Windows Server AppFabric, WCF and WF 4.0. One of his more notable projects recently was leading the BizTalk development effort for the ESB Toolkit 2.0 for Microsoft BizTalk Server 2009. He is an active speaker in the Microsoft community, delivering sessions for regional Microsoft events, desert code camp and user groups. Brendon is currently the Phoenix Regional Practice Director for Connected Systems at Neudesic.

 

Shannon  Bray
Shannon  Bray - Shannon Bray is a Microsoft Certified Professional Developer and Microsoft Certified Trainer with nearly fourteen years experience in the field of Information Technologies. Mr. Bray currently serves as both a consultant and trainer with a specialization in ASP.NET, C#, and SharePoint 2007. He is the sponsorship coordinator for the Rocky Mountain SharePoint User Group and the President of the Colorado Springs SharePoint User Group. Shannon has been selected as an MCT Ambassador/Technical Learning Guide at Microsoft's Tech Ed for the past four years and has presented at Microsoft's TechReady 6 - 8 and TechED. He also holds MCTS certifications for Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. Donald Farmer
Donald Farmer - Donald Farmer has worked in the Microsoft Business Intelligence team for 6 years. He has worked on both the Analysis Services and Integration Services product teams. Donald is now Principal Program Manager for SQL Server Data Mining, working to build a seamless integration of predictive and exploratory analytics with the Microsoft business intelligence offering. Mr. Farmer is a popular speaker at international events for both business and technical audiences, with a wide range of interests including data integration, information quality, metadata intelligence, master data management and predictive analytics. He is the author of a number of books and articles. Prior to joining Microsoft, Donald worked not only in business intelligence but in fields as varied as medieval archaeology and fish-farming.

 

Rick Garibay
Rick Garibay - With nearly 12 years experience delivering solutions on the Microsoft platform in various industry sectors, Rick is a developer, architect, speaker and author on distributed .NET technologies and is a Solutions Architect at Neudesic. Rick focuses on helping his clients streamline business processes while enhancing the productivity of it's developers by combining modern, iterative software engineering methodologies with the capabilities of the Microsoft Platform to help close the value gap. Rick specializes in cloud technologies such as Microsoft .NET, Windows Communication Foundation and Windows Azure to deliver business value and drive revenue while reducing operational costs. Rick is an active speaker, writer and passionate community advocate in the national .NET community. Rick is the President and Co-Founder of the Phoenix Connected Systems User Group. Recent presentations include the 2009 Microsoft SOA and Business Process Conference in Redmond, WA, and his numerous articles on .NET technology can be found in-print and online in publications such as CODE Magazine, DevX and his personal blog at http://rickgaribay.net. Rick is a proud Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) an has been awarded the MVP designation for Connected Systems for three years in a row.

 

Kevin Kline
Kevin Kline - Kevin Kline is the technical strategy manager for SQL Server Solutions at Quest Software. A Microsoft SQL Server MVP since 2004, Kevin is a founding board member and past president of the international Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS). He has authored many books, including "SQL in a Nutshell" (O’Reilly & Associates); "Pro SQL Server 2008 Relational Database Design and Implementation"; “SQL Server MVP Deep Dives” (Manning); and "Database Benchmarking: Practical Methods for Oracle & SQL Server" (Rampant). He is a top-rated speaker at such worldwide conferences as Microsoft TechEd, the Best Practice Conference, the PASS Community Summit, and DevConnections.

Brian Knight
Brian Knight - Brian Knight, SQL Server MVP, MCSE, MCDBA, is the co-founder of Jumpstart TV and SQLServerCentral.com. Brian has written and co-written 7 technical books including recently: Professional SQL Server 2005 Administration and Professional SQL Server 2005 Integration Services. Brian has spoken at conferences like PASS, TechEd and Connections.

 

Thomas LaRock
Thomas LaRock - Thomas LaRock is a seasoned IT professional with over a decade of technical and management experience. Currently serving as a database administration manager with ING Investment Management, Thomas has progressed through several roles at ING, including programmer, analyst, and DBA. Prior to ING, he worked at several software and consulting companies, working at customer sites in the United States and abroad. Thomas holds a MS degree in Mathematics from Washington State University and is a member of the Usability Professional's Association. Thomas is also a member of Quest's Association of SQL Server Experts, currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS), and is a SQL Server MVP

 

Ted Malone
Ted Malone - Ted is currently a Principal Software Engineer at EMC in the Ionix Business Unit. He is the Product Owner for "EMC Ionix Infrastructure Intelligence" , which applies Business Intelligence concepts to IT operational data to provide deep insight into IT Operations. Prior to EMC, he was a consultant and trainer and worked with many Fortune 1000 clients to deliver dynamic, data-driven solutions using Microsoft SQL Server and the Microsoft suite of development products. Ted has worked with SQL Server since version 1.0 (Yes, there really was a 1.0 version) on OS/2. He has also been involved with the Visual Studio Team System suite of products since the beginning, and has focused heavily on Agile Database development methods using MSF and "Data Dude" (Team System for Database Professionals).

 

Peter Myers
Peter Myers - Peter has 12 years of solid experience working in OLTP database design and development, DBA support and Data Warehousing/Business Intelligence with SQL Server. Specializing in developing custom data-focused applications and reporting solutions, he provides architecting, development, implementation and support services at all tiers of a multi-tier application. He has a broad business background supported by a bachelor degree in applied economics, and he extends this with MCITP, MCSD, MCDBA, MCSE and MCT certifications. Currently, he provides mentoring and technical training internationally. In April 2009, Peter was re-awarded Microsoft MVP (Most Valuable Professional) for the third time. Peter enjoys sharing his enthusiasm for Microsoft technologies by presenting at SQL Server user group meetings and technical events, including TechEd (US and Australia) and VSLive.

 

Paul Nielsen
Paul Nielsen - Paul is a Microsoft SQL Server MVP and author of SQL Server 2008 Bible. Paul focuses on data architecture and the design and development of high-transaction OLTP databases. As an architect, Paul developed Nordic O/R DBMS (Microsoft Architecture Journal No. 8.) As a performance tuning and optimization consultant, Paul has helped scores of organizations improve their databases and he recently designed and coded a database that runs at 35K tps. As a speaker and trainer, Paul has guided thousands as they learn SQL Server technologies both in-person, through his writings, and through his video courses. Paul speaks at SQL Server user groups and most SQL Server conferences - PASS Summit, Microsoft Tech Ed Dev, SQL Open World (Denmark), and SQL Teach (Canada). Paul serves the SQL Server community on the PASS Board of Directors, and organizes the annual Colorado PASSCamp. Paul participated in the development of Microsoft Certification exams for SQL Server 2008.

 

Brent Ozar
Brent Ozar - Brent was the fifth Microsoft Certified Master of SQL Server 2008 in the US outside of Microsoft. He's a consultant and trainer with SQLskills.com and a Microsoft SQL Server MVP. Brent has a decade of broad IT experience, performing SQL Server database administration, systems administration, SAN administration, virtualization administration, and project management. In his current role, Brent specializes in performance tuning, virtual and cloud-based database servers, and disaster recovery. Previously, Brent spent 2 years at Southern Wine & Spirits, a Miami-based wine & spirits distributor. Brent has experience conducting training sessions, has written several technical articles, and blogs prolifically at http://www.BrentOzar.com.

Vishal Shukla
Vishal Shukla - Vishal has been behind the keyboards for over 18 years and mainly exploring Microsoft technologies from GWBasics to .net 4.0. Vishal works as a System Architect for the Palm Beach County. He has been actively involved with local user group communities. He has given various presentaions at code camps, Teched Tweener and various user group events. Winner of INETA Community Champions award for 2008 Q3. Microsoft VB .Net MVP

 

Jason Strate
Jason Strate - Jason Strate, Digineer Inc, is a database architect and administrator with over twelve years of experience. He is Microsoft MVP (Most Valuable Professional) for SQL Server. His experience includes design and implementation of both OLTP and OLAP solutions as well as assessment and implementation of SQL Server environments for best practices, performance, and high availability solutions. Jason is a SQL Server MCITP and participated in the development of Microsoft Certification exams for SQL Server 2008. He is actively involved with the local PASS chapter (SQL Server User Group) and is currently serving as the Director of Program Development. In the past year, Jason worked with the current board to organize the PASSMN SQL Summit 2009 in September for the local community. Jason enjoys helping others in the SQL Server community and does this by presenting at technical conferences and user group meetings. Most recently, Jason has presented at the SSWUG Virtual Conferences, TechFuse, SQL Saturdays, and at PASSMN user group meetings. Jason is an active blogger with a focus on SQL Server and related technologies.

 

Craig Utley
Craig Utley - Craig Utley is a Mentor with Solid Quality Mentors and a former Program Manager with the SQL Server Customer Advisory Team (SQLCAT) where he focused on Business Intelligence. Craig has been involved in the Microsoft BI space since the betas of SQL Server 7.0, when he helped write Microsoft's first data warehousing course. Since then he has consulted at a variety of businesses worldwide on their BI solutions as an independent consultant, a ProClarity consultant, and a member of SQLCAT. Thanks to his time on SQLCAT, Craig has seen some of the largest Microsoft data warehouses in the world and has worked directly with the Analysis Services development team. Craig is also a former MVP in C#, which he had to give up when he joined Microsoft in May 2006. Craig is a current member of the INETA Speaker's Bureau and maintains an interest in the .NET space. He is the author of over 35 articles and 3 books, the most recent of which is about PerformancePoint Server 2007.

 

Erik Veerman
Erik Veerman - Erik Veerman is a Mentor for Solid Quality Mentors focusing on training, mentoring and architecting solutions on the SQL Server BI platform. His industry recognition includes Microsoft's Worldwide BI Solution of the Year and SQL Server Magazine's Innovator Cup winner. Erik has designed dozens of BI solutions across a broad business spectrum-telecommunications, marketing, retail, commercial real estate, finance, supply chain, and information technology. His experience with high volume multi-terabyte environments and SQL Server 64-bit has enabled clients to scale their Microsoft-based BI solutions for optimal potential. As an expert in OLAP design, ETL processing, and dimensional modeling, Erik is a presenter, author and instructor. He led the ETL architecture and design for the first production implementation of Integration Services (SSIS) and helped drive the ETL standards and best practices for SSIS on Microsoft's SQL Server 2005 reference initiative, Project REAL. Erik is co-author of the book SSIS Professional and Expert SSIS.

 

Buck Woody
Buck Woody - Buck Woody is a SQL Server Senior Technical Specialist for Microsoft –A Microsoft SQL Server MVP since 2006, Buck has authored more than 400 SQL Server articles and five SQL Server books. (Twitter, Blog)

 

Stephen Wynkoop
Stephen Wynkoop - Stephen is a Microsoft SQL Server MVP and the founder of SSWUG.ORG. He writes a daily column and newsletter on the site and produces a weekly SQL Server video program on the site. Stephen is the author of more than 12 books translated into 7 languages around the world. Stephen has spoken at numerous technology conferences and reports regularly on the happenings in the technology world.
