If you can see the video above, you're all set. (It plays on a loop)
Please allow several seconds for the second video to begin.
If not, here are some suggestions for getting things going on your system:
The most common symptom of issues with the player is simply a black screen in
the video area, sometimes with "Ready" shown in the lower left corner. The other
thing you may see is "Buffering..." These tips should help resolve these issues.
First, determine your actual connection speed. You can right click on the video area above, then select Statistics, Advanced. Look
at the "Bandwidth in Use" item. You want that to be in excess of 350k. If it's less, it'll impact your viewing experience for
the conference.
Second, you can try the following if you're not getting any image or sound at all:
- Make sure you have the most recent media player from Microsoft. You will need to
have version 10 or later of the media player. You can get more information
here on the Microsoft site.
- NOTE: You may have both a firewall on your local system and one on the corporate
network:
- Make sure the firewall on your system is allowing streaming media to be passed
to your system. You'll need to check with your particular firewall provider to
make sure you're allowing port 1755 through, with the host names of
bcast.sswug.org and *.akamaistream.net for media services.
- Make sure the CORPORATE firewall for your system is allowing streaming media to
be passed to your system. You'll need to check with your particular firewall
provider to make sure you're allowing port 1755 through, with the host names of
bcast.sswug.org and *.akamaistream.net for media services.
- If you're accessing the Internet by way of a VPN, consider connecting without it
for viewing the show. We've seen issues with VPNs not allowing the streaming
protocols through to the end-user systems.
- If you're seeing the "Buffering..." message, this indicates a connection
bandwidth issue. It's likely that your network is saturated and is having
trouble keeping up with the streaming. You can increase the buffer allocated to
the streaming by going into Media Player settings and updating the buffer
duration there.
| | Here's a compilation of the most common questions attendees have ranging from video issues to conference login. Take a moment to browse to the section that concerns you. If you don't find an answer to your question, contact our help desk via the link at the bottom of the page.
|
| - | Video: What do I do if my bandwidth is low? |
| Right click on the player screen. Select Options. Under the Performance tab set the Connection speed to “Detect Connection Speed"ť. If your bandwidth does not increase in the statistics tab then your ISP is probably to blame.
|
| - | Video: What do I do if my bandwidth is fluctuating? |
| Right click on the player screen, click options. On the performance tab select the advanced button in the video acceleration section. UNCHECK all the optional check boxes. Digital video slider should be set to "large".
|
| - | Video: What do I do if I experience audio and/or video drop offs? |
| If you are experiencing drop offs in audio or video you may try resetting your modem as well as your router if you use one. Sometimes these can become bogged down and begin to malfunction. Generally the modem and router should be powered down together. Then power the modem back on and wait for all status lights to appear. Once the modem is on and operational, power on the router. These are only general steps, so you may need to contact your equipment manufacturer for further troubleshooting procedures.

| - | General: Why can't I get the session window to open in Vista? |
| If you are running Vista and can't get the session window to open there is a good chance it is because of the multimedia switcher. The following solution was provided by Zach on the Vista forums at - http://www.vistax64.com/vista-music-pictures-video/42532-vista-media-center-not-working-help.html
“You should have mmswitch.ax on your system - that is a third party piece of
codec that does not work very well. If you can uninstall that, do that.
If no uninstall is available:
Go to the Start:Run prompt by pressing (WindowsKey)+R.
type "cmd.exe" and then hit CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER
Click OK to run as Admin.
Enter:
regsvr32 /u mmswitch.ax
in the cmd.exe prompt
If that doesn't work, find mmswitch.ax on your system and give the exact
path to the file as the parameter to "regsvr32 /u".
Or you can just rename "mmswitch.ax" on your system to "mmswitch.ax.bad".
That would fix your problem.”
|
