Understanding External Storage for Microsoft SharePoint Content

On Demand until 2/9/11

Are you considering Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and make the most of this investment? What complementary technologies should IT consider to enhance SharePoint capabilities for a complete information management infrastructure? How can you leverage intelligent capture to make all of your content – including paper documents – easily accessible? How can information governance improve your operational efficiencies through retention, disposition, and lifecycle management to corporate information? Join us in this Web seminar and learn how IT decision makers can extend, leverage, and drive maximum ROI from your SharePoint 2010 investment.

Information growth is one of IT’s biggest concerns and the popularity and growing use of SharePoint has become a primary contributor. With this issue in mind Microsoft introduced the capability to store SharePoint documents outside of the content database, a concept referred to as externalization. Externalizing your content into a repository other than Microsoft SQL Server promises some significant improvements for data storage with large content databases. Although the primary goal of externalization is to reduce the stress on the overloaded SQL Servers that support SharePoint it is also important to ensure the end user experience and the end users’ access to content.

SharePoint expert Michael Noel will focus on how to configure and use external storage in SharePoint while CapGemini’s Jon Ludwig will discuss solutions offered by strategic vendors like EMC. These solutions cover improving information infrastructure manageability and performance, asserting governance over SharePoint content, and efficiently managing paper-based information.
